witness list, folks from both sides, pro safety, mark kelly, james johnson, a chief of police in baltimore and chairman of the national law enforcement partnership. those on the other side, wayne lapierre, nicholas johnson and gayle trotter but as i understand it, you heard there's some concern that there's a slant to those witnesses that they're more gun advocates than those who want to see some safety legislation put in place. >> well, that's right. i think that you have a more than handful senate democrats and not liberals, per se, pretty upset about the fact that chairman leahy of vermont who's the chairman stacked the witness list against those or in favor if you will of those who are against gun control and so i know that today senator dianne feinste feinstein, second on the judiciary committee and has assurance to have another hearing without a witness list that will be stacked or stacked the other way, if you will. i mean, and so i think that you have members -- if you look at the dias, you have senators of big snams, new york, california, illinois, connecticut where newtown was. t

the full senate. congresswoman gabby giffords and her husband mark kelly are set to testify as is nra executive wayne lapierrre. he has prepared remarks were released yesterday. his group will continue to oppose any and all new gun laws and that would include an assault weapons ban and any requirement for a universal background check. congressman paul ryan also against an assault weapons ban and any restriction on high-capacity magazines. seems to be breaking with the nra on one point. in an interview with the "milwaukee journal sentinel," congressman ryan called the gun show loophole an obvious problem. the nra has denied it exists. ryan has indicated he is willing to bend on closing the loophole. we're back with more show after the break. stay with us. right have, about the "heavy hand of government" ... i want to have that conversation. let's talk about it. really? you're going to lay people off because now the government is going to help you fund your healthcare. really? i want to have those conversations, not to be confrontational, but to understand what the other side is say

first hearing on gun violence today. nra ceo wayne lapiere and mark kelly and giffords herself could make a surprise appearance. the couple launched their gun control advocacy group americans for responsible solutions earlier this morningnth and visited newtown connecticut following the mass shooting. today's hearing is expected to be highly incendiary. some of the most staunchly divided lawmakers. and ted cruz and john cornyn of supporters of second amendment rights. a new bill is gaining contraction on the hill. a bi-partisan group of senators including tom co burning, mark kirk joe shoechumer are working on a proposal to strengthen the enforcement of background checks. this does have a potential to break some of the gridlock. coburn said need to keep guns out of the hands of those who pose a danger to themselves and others. and to draft a bill gun rights supporters can get behind. more bill press is up after the break. stay with us.
